Current Business Ethics

Both of the articles I read have to do with schoolmaster ethics, which according to Santa Clara University, deal with the behavior of managers and employees in matters such as loyalty, honesty, etc. The low article deals with the new chief operating officer of a corporation who learns that he has inherited problems with the companys product and profitability. He proposes a four-day workweek, but eventually, layoffs prove to be inevitable. Who should the chief operating officer inform of the bad news and when? The act article deals with a new CFO who finds himself in an ethical dilemma to downsize base on performance appraisals, which the CEO has neglected to perform on certain senior employees, or based on age, which the CEO is encouraging. Will the new CFO risk his career if he disagrees with his new CEO? I chose both of these articles because they deal with having to have got bad news, which is one of the types of communication we have dealt with in this class.

In the first article George Anderson became CEO of Astratech Communications International (ACI) abruptly after his 40th birthday. Once he was able to strengthen into his new position he realized that the company was having issues with proceeds and profitability.

In order to avoid layoffs, George decided to implement a four-day workweek. He figured this strategy would spread the pain as among all employees. Now it was time to give everyone the bad news. George had to relegate this bad news to his executive team and to union leadership. How essential he have broken the bad news to his executive team and to the union leadership? Did he use the identical method for both, direct or indirect?

In the second article,...If you want to get a full essay, order it on our website: Orderessay
