Mid-term break is an elegy written by Seamus Heaney and is based upon

The title, Mid-Term Break, gives the referee, at first glance, the

line. There is no verse in this poem but a rhythm of significant beat can
be found in the threesome stanza; the baby, which cooed and laughed and
rocked the pram. This rhythmic phrase shows a contradiction between 2
ideas; a funeral is supposed to be a cast down theme but the baby
seems to be happy and incognizant of the things happening around it.
